A Beautiful Day for the Inaugural Penicuik Area Schools Clubgolf Ryder Cup Festival
On Wednesday the 22nd April, approximately 130 primary 5 pupils from four Penicuik primary schools attended the first ever Penicuik area Ryder Cup Clubgolf Festival.
The four schools were split in to six teams of approximately 25 pupils, with each team being assigned to either Europe or the U.S.A. to link to the theme of the Ryder Cup. Strathesk PS (team 1), Mauricewood PS (team 2) & Cornbank PS played for the USA and Mauricewood PS (team 1), Sacred Heart PS and Strathesk PS (team 2) played for Europe.
The pupils rotated around six stations, three scoring stations, two fun games stations and a practice area. At each of the scoring stations (Full Launch, Chipping & Putting); each team had 60 balls to hit to try to score as many points as possible for their team.
The focus of the Festival, on what was a beautifully sunny day, was on the pupils having the opportunity to try out Golf in a fun environment.
The overall winners were Team U.S.A. and the school team with the most points were Cornbank Primary.
