Community Sports Hubs

A Home for Sport

Community Sports Hubs officer Ben Glencross aims to bring clubs together to grow in their community.

Sports Hubs

Midlothian Sport and Leisure Services are currently working to develop four Community Sports Hubs across Midlothian. Each of the four hubs, Danderhall, Lasswade Newbattle and Penicuik, are working to make a difference locally, with their own specific projects for the year. Working in partnership with Sportscotland, Midlothian employs a Sport Development Officer dedicated to supporting these hubs and the clubs associated.

I (Ben Glencross) have recently been appointed to this role, in a part time, temporary position, to cover maternity leave. My background is sport development and the charity sector, having worked for football clubs, walking groups and sports governing bodies. I am in post until January 2017 with the priorities of supporting the Danderhall Hub to launch and helping the existing hubs to work towards sustainability.

The priorities for the hubs remains the same; increasing participation, engaging the local community, promoting community leadership, offering a range of sports and brining key partners together. I will be facilitating the Hub meetings and working with each hub to plan, develop and deliver activity that helps achieve these objectives. I am also available outside these meeting to help clubs, to discuss priorities and to understand the support clubs need in Midlothian.

I can be contacted at ben.glencross@midlothian.gov.uk or on 0131 270 6769 and am working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
